Epiphany…
Rubber-tubing down a tropical river in Sumatra. Like a teenager in Canada’s Wonderland. Except oh, way better. The umbered blue of Indonesia’s mountains behind. The palms and bamboos coking the whole foreground with their fecundity, bending over the river’s banks, reaching out to scratch my arms or catch my hair when the rapids bring me close. Floating on water. On air. Watching, breathing, being. … Jungle people bathing in oxbow puddles or stone dredged pools.
“salamat sien!” I wave (good day)
& the river in front of me could be the future: white water footsteps–the thrill of just-around-the-next-bend. The mountain behind could be my past: blue haron statue, “poised on the thot of flight…”
all this glory must be an omen right?
(shrug)
Then again maybe not: I am in an inner tube after all, ass hanging down, getting caught on the rocks.
